Content Management System

What is a Content Management System or CMS?

A content management system (CMS) is a web-based application that manages and renders digital content over the internet. CMS vary widely in what each of them does, they include web publishing, version control, search, indexing, and retrieval.
What does this have to do with what you will need for your website, it’s pretty simple actually, we leverage CMS applications as they have built-in functionality that allows web designers like us focus on the look and feel of the site where the content is separated so the two aren’t as tightly coupled. The benefit of this is the designers can focus on graphics, functionality, and flow whereas the content writers are able to focus on what they do best, content creation.
Over 90% of all websites on the internet are run by some variation of a CMS. Gone are the days when crunching out raw HTML is the way.

Content Management

Save your content in draft mode, maintain it through folders, easily update navigation structures, restrict permissions, automate publishing, format your content with “what you see is what you get” WYSIWYG editors, enforce approval processes, shrink image sizes, install plugins and the list goes on but all of these are just features that allow your business to function that much smoother with the effects it requires.

Branding

In today’s day, almost every company out there has a website that either gives off a very good impression or not. Making sure that your branding is properly distributed all over your website will ensure that whenever potential clients stumble upon your website they instantly know who you are, what you do and that they are welcome to get in contact with you. As a company, you want to
ensure that your company stands out and one of those differentiators is in your branding.

Extensibility

Basic installs of any CMS is just the beginning of your website. Every CMS out there is built to allow for sensibility as these software applications don’t pretend to have absolutely everything you need but rather have built it for add-ons and plug-ins to extend it’s functionality to whatever the website owner desires. There are software companies out there that have built their entire business around providing these type of extensions for use.

 Customer Service

Frequently Asked Questions, supports sections, help areas are vital in keeping potential shoppers happy and almost all CMS products will provide this type of functionality out of the box. Part of the point of websites is to provide the ease of finding information that they desire and providing helpful information sometimes will make or break the experience your end users will have.

Mobile Optimization (Responsive Websites)

More advanced CMS’s offer responsive themes that provide great mobile experiences. With the mobile use of the internet taking over along with Google mobile search being used more than desktop, it is extremely important that your website has responsive mobile functionality built in. A lot of the CMS products offer this by default.

Increase efficiency

Publishing content efficiently with the ease of editing and revisions with the need for coding makes the CMS far more appealing to users that don’t have a technical background. Content marketers are far more effective is all the do is simply to publish content and a CMS will do that exact thing. Saving on wasteful time for businesses is key to their survival and competitive edge.

Increase your Google ranking

In order to improve upon Google ranking content and an easy to use CMS is actually quite important. If you want your website to be engaging for external contribution such as comments, forum, likes, etc…) an integral part in remaining relevant is improving your Google ranking by leveraging easy to use tools like a Content Management System.

Control Over Your Content

One of the main benefits of a CMS is the amount of control a company has over their content. With built-in workflow and automated processes baked into the software, it provides the website owner the piece of mind knowing that they are always in complete control.

Help Your Customers Find What They Are Looking For

Another big benefit is the CMS search functionality. One of the main points about building website is the requirement to provide end users readily available content that they desire to read at any point when they are on your website. It is extremely frustrating for end users to spend lots of time trying to find specific information about your company’s products, services or something else. With CMS applications the search feature is ideal as end users can short cut their way right to the information they desire to read.

Cross-Selling

More advanced CMS systems have the ability to learn from end-user behavior and patterns allowing your cross-selling much more effective.
